LEC Match of the Week 5: Origen vs Fnatic

Origen vs Fnatic matchups has always been hype. Part of this because OG’s founder, xPeke, was a famous Fnatic player and before G2 reign, there were these two giants. Now, with two of the most strong rosters in the LEC, OG and FNC will battle for that juicy win in Week 5. These two played against each other in the first week of the LEC 2020 Season and OG won in a dominant fashion. We are going to look closely at this match and lay out our expectations.

Last week for Origen was a success. The team played vs MAD and XL, managed to win both of them. We covered OG vs MAD as the match of Week 4 and expected a little bit more competitiveness. However, OG crushed MAD so to say and got an easy victory against XL. We have to say, OG is looking scarier week after week and if they managed to continue to improve, they will be a strong contender for the Finals.

When we look at OG’s playstyle, they tend to play slower in the early game. But they are the best team in the league in terms of late-game rating. One of the factors led OG to succeed is their tendency to play safely. They may be slow in the early game but they sure don’t give any advantage to their opponent. OG performs really well as a team but there are some who shines too.

Origen has arguably best top side trio in the league, maybe except G2, and this strength comes from purely Xerxe’s addition to the team. This dominance reflects on the statistics too. Xerxe has the second-highest first blood rate amongst all the junglers. Although OG plays slow in the early game, Xerxe gets a lead on gold and experience difference at 10th min compared to his opponent. Nukeduck may not get much of the jungle’s attention but the same can not be said regarding Alphari. He is performing at most and leading OG to the victory. Alphari has 464 DPM, 26.8 damage share and %38 first blood rate, and on all these stats, he is at the top.

Expectations from Fnatic were high before the LEC starts. They lost their superstar jungler Broxah to NA but got Selfmade from SK, an old teammate of Nemesis. Knowing there is already a mid-jungle synergy exist may be relieving, however, there was a big question; How will Selfmade fit into Fnatic? So far, he’s been doing well. Individually all of the players are talented but it feels like FNC still hasn’t decided how they are going to play the league. They lack identity and make a lot of mistakes. It shouldn’t be a surprise if we told you these mistakes generally come from bot lane, specifically from Hylissang.

Contrary to OG, Fnatic plays early game super fast. They are the second-best team in terms of early game but their performance drops in the mid to late game. They are good at taking the first tower and cashing in those plates, however, they can’t continue to show this kind of proactivity after the first tower.

FNC has been always a bot-centric team and this hasn’t changed in 2020 season too. Rekkles is the best marksman in terms of GD@10 and XPD@10 but he is horrible about DPM. With 389, he is the worst ADC about dealing damage. FNC’s other star player, Nemesis, is also underperforming according to the stats. He has %50 KP, which is the worst between mid laners. Anyhow, he deals most of his team’s damage, after Bwipo. The main reason FNC looks really worse compared to last year is that they have a shockingly bad vision score. They don’t place wards, they don’t purchase enough and don’t clear enough. This breeds more face checking, thus more death.

We should expect a relatively fast early game. This depends on drafts as well, however, no matter how OG tries to slow early game, FNC will find a way to fasten it. We may see a much more proactive approach from Origen. They both are really good at closing the game after they got the lead so there should be no huge comebacks. If FNC wins, they will tie their score with OG. If OG wins, they will have a shot to be the leader of the LEC. Let’s see who will win!
