If you are a beginner in Valorant, we have three tips for every role that will help you play better.
We believe that these are the critical aspects of the agent roles that must be understood by all Valorant players.
What is a Duelist
Duelists are one of the four roles of agents in Valorant. These agents are self-sufficient fraggers who must be the first to engage the enemies and get kills using their abilities and skills.
3 Tips for Duelist role in Valorant
Entry
As a Duelist, you are the first person to engage the enemies. It is your job to enter the bomb site first and clear it for your teammates. This process is called “Entry,” and the abilities of a duelist allow you to perform it easily.
Make use of your abilities, like Reyna’s leer or Jett’s cloudburst, before entering the site.
Aiming
Duelists are required to have the best aim to fulfil their role properly. You cannot entry-frag and clear the bomb site for your team if you lack aiming skills.
The easiest way to aim is to focus on crosshair placement. Spend a few minutes in the range and play a couple of death matches before entering a match. You can learn more about aiming here.
Flank
Flanking is a tactic where you move around the map and attack the enemy team from behind. Flanking is a very effective strategy, but do not perform this tactic very often, as your job is to be on the front line as a duelist.
Keep in mind, the enemies’ sentinels might be watching the flank.
What is a Controller
Controllers are support agents that are experts in cutting off the enemies’ vision. The abilities of a controller are focused on vision blocking and taking control of an area to help their team enter a bomb site easily.
3 Tips for Controllers in Valorant
Learn the best smoke spots and one-ways.
As a controller, you must smoke off the correct spots on the map. Bad smoke can lose you the round, so learn the best smoke spots through guides and VOD reviews.
Learn about one-way smokes. One-way smokes will give your team an advantage when fighting enemies. Good execution by the controller can easily win you the round.
Lineups
Lineups are another effective way to win the round. Learn post-plant lineups with agents like Brimstone and Viper to stop the enemies from defusing the spike.
You can use your lineups from a safe spot across the map and easily defend the spike after planting it.
Use abilities wisely
The abilities of a controller must be used very efficiently. Do not use all your abilities as soon as the round starts.
What is an Initiator
Initiators challenge the angles by helping their team enter a bomb site while pushing the defenders away.
The abilities of an initiator are focused on gathering information, initiating an attack on the site and supporting their team in entering the bomb site.
3 Tips for Initiators in Valorant
Gather info
Most of the initiators are equipped with abilities that can gather information. Use these abilities before entering the bomb site and plan your attack accordingly.
For example, Sova’s recon dart or Fade’s haunt will reveal the exact locations of the enemies.
This will make it easy for your team to enter a bomb site. If possible, take advantage of these abilities and spam through walls to get easy kills.
Communication
Communicating in Valorant is a very important practice. Especially as an Initiator, you have to maintain constant communication with your teammates.
All the Intel you have gathered must be conveyed to your teammates, with this information, your team will decide whether to attack the site or rotate to a different bomb site.
Also, make use of the in-game ping system to share Intel.
Investing in abilities/proper utility usage
An initiator must first invest in their abilities rather than weapons. The abilities of an initiator are crucial and can easily win you the round.
For example: if you are playing Sova, investing in the Owl-Drone ability is much better than buying a weapon or armour.
Learn how to properly use these abilities through the guides. Make proper use of the utility.
What is a Sentinel
Sentinels are defensive experts who can anchor down the bomb site and watch the flanks for their team. The abilities of a sentinel are heavily focused on supporting the team, defending a site, and preventing the enemies from flanking.
3 Tips for Sentinels in Valorant
Support team/defensive play
To properly fulfil the role of a sentinel, you must play like a support agent. A sentinel needs to stay alive as much as possible.
Do not be on the front line. Instead, stay behind your team and constantly support them.
Anchor down the site/proper setups
The abilities of a sentinel allow you to easily anchor down a bombsite on your own.
Take advantage of these abilities and stop the enemies from entering the bomb site.
Abilities like Sage’s wall, Slow Orb, or Cypher’s Trapwire are very effective when defending a bombsite. As a sentinel, you must stop or slow down the enemies’ momentum and wait for your team to rotate.
Watch flank
It is your job as a sentinel to stop the enemies from flanking. The abilities of a sentinel allow you to perform this task easily.
For example, Killjoy’s alarm bot, Turret, Chamber’s trademark, or Cypher’s tripwire can stop the flank.
These abilities stop the enemies from flanking and also provide crucial information about the enemies’ position to your team.
