Our win probabilities are calculated by using machine learning techniques on competitive League of Legends leading up to Worlds 2020.
Prior to a match-up, for both teams, first, their performances in the last 5 games are extracted.
These performance measures consist of various features such as their mean gold difference relating to the opponent for the games in the series, binary values whether the team got first blood/turrets in each of the games, how many times Baron Nashor has been slain, team region, vision score versus opponent, mean gold difference and many more.
These measurements are normalized according to the game duration and patch version so the features of a matchup can be compared with another in a meaningful way. Using 5-fold cross-validation, our out-of-fold accuracy is at 0.641. So in general we expect 6 out of 10 predictions to be the correct outcome.
Keep in mind that before any League of Legends game starts we can only make predictions according to a team’s performance on the previous match and these predictions lack the information of champion picks, bans, or lane match-ups therefore it uses the knowledge of how a team performed against their past opponents.
Additionally, our models are trained in order to be robust and make generalized performance, so that it’s performance is meaningful in a vast number of match-ups rather than a few outcomes. We hope to move from the random choice probability of 0.5 towards our validation accuracy of 0.641 as more games are completed for the upcoming Worlds 2020!

At 6 minutes, Graves got the first dragon. While DWG took the first Herald in the 8th minute, a battle broke out and DWG shed the first blood, achieving a total of 2 kills. DWG, who had 1K-gold lead by the time another dragon spawned, took the 2nd dragon 12 minutes. 15 minutes in, DWG took the second Herald. Subsequently, DWG destroyed the first tower from the top lane.
At 17 minutes, DWG started the 3rd Dragon and a team fight broke with DRX’s arrival. Kindred managed to steal the Dragon and no lives lost. 22 minutes in and DWG got their third Dragon while Graves was keeping DRX busy. In the 28th minute, DWG, who dominated the map, took the 4th Dragon and captured the soul. Nothing was in their way to get another buff, therefore they also went for the Baron. Thus, DWG reached 3K gold advantage.
In the 34th minute, war broke out for the Elder Dragon. DWG took the buff along with 3 points from the team fight. DWG increased the gold difference to 10K with a second Baron buff. At 37 minutes DWG had already destroyed all of DRX’s inhibitors which left DRX with nothing to hold onto. DWG scored 2 points in return of 1 and won the first match with ease.

In the 4th minute, Nidalee and Galio ganked the top lane, where they slew Ornn and shed the first blood. At 9 minutes, DRX took the first Herald. DRX destroyed the first tower from the top lane @11 while Graves took the first dragon. In the 16th minute DWG took the second Herald and unleashed it in the mid lane to take down a tower whereas DRX got the second Dragon.
At 18 minutes, a battle broke out in DRX’s blue buff side where DRX scored 4 points and gave 1 in return, leaving no one alive as they shot Twisted Fate down afterwards. Winning the battle, DRX got the 3rd dragon. In the 26th minute, when the 4th dragon emerged, a teamfight started with Senna’s W in the middle lane. In the battle here, DWG scored 4 points in return for one, where they announced the return of their dominance along with getting the Baron buff. Graves caught Nidalee in the dragon pit and where Twisted Fate slew Nidalee. Having received the dragon buff, DWG made the dragon scores even.
DWG got their team’s 3rd dragon in the 33rd minute. The team fight that broke out in the Baron pit continued by the river towards the mid lane, where DWG scored 2 points. Afterwards, DWG moved onto their opponent’s Nexus, where the massacred DRX eventually lost the 2nd game.

DRX had already won in the champion selection phase. At 6 minutes, as DWG took the first dragon, Graves ganked the bot lane where he slew Ashe and shed the first blood. In the 8th minute, DWG took the first Herald. Graves, slew the 2nd Dragon @13 and the second Herald @15.
In the 15th minute, a fight broke out in the DRX’s blue buff side, where a one-on-one exchange took place between teams. Another fight started with Braum getting caught iby Orianna’s ult. Here DWG gave a score to their opponent in return of getting 3 points. DAMWON was suddenly back in the game as they always do. At 18 minutes, Graves got the 3rd Dragon. In the 20th minute, the battle broke out in the lower river, where DWG got 2 more points.
The battle began with Braum getting caught by Ashe’s ult in mid lane at 21 minutes where Pantheon fell. Later, DRX rotated towards the Baron and a 5v4 team fight started here. DWG managed to get 4 points along with the Baron. At 24 minutes, Kindred slew another Dragon for DWG.
In the battle that broke out at 24 minutes, DAMWON Gaming committed a massacre and ended the match without any drawbacks. Thus, DWG became the winner of League of Legends 2020 Worlds Championship Quarter Finals DWG vs DRX match! And they qualified for the Semi Finals.
