Supports are undisputedly one of the most important members of any team. The role greatly influences team performance because of its responsibilities and irreplaceable utilities. This post discusses Game-Changing Ults on Support Champions in League of Legends.
As usual, we will prioritize spells that can affect multiple enemy champions, increasing the chances of victory for allies. However, we made one exception, and it is quite worth it.
Read on to find out!
Renata – Hostile Takeover
This ability perfectly counters any enemy composition that has multiple auto-attack-based champions. The reason is that Hostile Takeover forces affected enemies to attack one another for a short period, disabling their abilities in the process.
However, even if opponents don’t really rely on auto-attacks, this ability still functions as a lockdown, allowing allies to dish out uninterrupted damage to affected enemies.
Although the Cleanse summoner spell, Quick Silver Sash, and Mikael’s Crucible item can free a champion from the influence of the ult, enemies will mostly concentrate them on a carry. This way, your team can burst down the carry while the rest of the opponents are disarmed.
Seraphine – Encore
Seraphine’s ult works as an Area of Effect (AoE) charm against enemies. It forces them to move toward her helplessly for a short period.
When paired with other high-damage AoE like Miss Fortune’s Bullet Time, Orianna’s Command: Shockwave, or Kennen’s Slicing Maelstrom, it can wipe the entire enemy team.
Even though some players compare this ability to Sona’s Crescendo, they actually function differently and, as such, excel at varying scenarios.
Most players use Encore to engage in the late game, but the ult can also serve as a follow-up or even to lockdown escaping foes.
Sona – Crescendo
Although it looks similar to Seraphine’s Encore at first glance, this ability actually goes a step further. Crescendo stuns enemies instead of charming them, leaving little to no room for a reaction because of its short cast time.
However, the ability has a shorter range than Encore, making it excellent for fights in choked spaces like around objectives or in the jungle. It also works well for skirmishes at every stage of the game.
To top it off, Sona can also reduce enemy damage for a short duration, which comes in handy in the late game when damage matters.
Taric – Cosmic Radiance
Imagine Kayle’s Divine Judgement, but without the damage and with a longer cast delay, you will have an idea of Taric’s Cosmic Radiance. However, while the ult has the above shortcomings, it makes up for it by having a multi-target effect.
Cosmic Radiance renders every ally within range invulnerable for some seconds after a brief delay. This makes it very powerful in close or even hopeless fights because it allows allies to keep fighting for longer without sustaining any damage.
You always want to cast the ult in a way that it will reach as many team members as possible. If the situation is dire, prioritize your carry so that they can continue dishing out damage. You can also follow it up with the healing on Taric’s Q – Starlight’s Touch at the end.
Zilean – Chronoshift
Chronoshift is basically a free Guardian Angel for your team! The ability allows Zilean to revive an ally if they die while under its effect. Although it is a single-target ult, we included it in this list because of its potential to shift teamfights.
Experienced Zilean players generally reserve this ability for vital team members like the carry. Granting them a second will greatly increase your team’s chances of winning the fight, even if it started out unfavorable.
However, it is important that the affected champion dies while under the ability’s influence. As such, if an ally casts Chronoshift on you, it is better to continue fighting instead of running away. The reason is that dying after the effect ends will not revive you.
